total defence day
heyy people.. not really in the mood to blog now.. haaii.... but i promised a special total defence entry to all those who care or don't care about total defence day. so yeah, i'm here to tell you unaware people about the importance and significance of Total Defence. before i start, i feel like i've done my part. i hope you guys will take it seriously and contribute your little efforts too. it really does help in the long run. you'll thank me some day. =) oh yes, not forgetting that very faithful day on 15 Feb 1942 when Singapore fell to the Japanese. It's a very important historical date which marked the fall of our once "impregnable" fortress. *pauses* so yup, i've contributed to total defence today. i feel slightly better, despite of the sad stuff which happened today. hai. i shall be more enthu about this another day. i really have no mood to be enthu today. well, let's first start of with a brief introduction to Total Defence...
Total Defence (quan min fang wei) is about what we can do everyday in every sector of our society to strengthen our resilience as a nation. When we take National Service seriously, participate in civil emergency exercises, upgrade ourselves and learn new skills, build strong bonds with different races and religions, and feel the pride of being a Singaporean, we contribute to Total Defence. *cheer cheer cheer cheer!!*first, i would like to touch on
Economic Defence (jing ji fang wei).Economic Defence is all about building a strong community that will not break down during times of war and crisis while staying relevant through rapid change and development. We must constantly upgrade our skills and knowledge to stay relevant and emplayable in this rapidly changing world. Our people's ability to embrace lifelong learning and re-training is vital to keep our economy competitive.
secondly,
Military Defence (jun shi fang wei).Military Defence is about deterring agression, being operationally ready and to have the ability to meet all kinds of challenges during any kind of emergency or scenario. The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) is a credible defence force that is able to deter aggression and can secure a swift victory over the aggressor should deterrence fail. Mandatory National Servce is the only variable option to ensure our country's security. (For more info about NS, pls read my entry on NS dated last year =))
thirdly,
Civil Defence (min shi fang wei).Civil Defence is about knwoing what to do during civil emergencies and preparing civilians to deal with emergencies. It also compliments Military Defence.
then, there's
Psychological Defence (xin li fang wei).Psychological Defence is all about possessing loyalty and commitment to our country. It is also about having pride, dedication and passion for our nation, standing up to defend our sovereignty and independence. (wow!) In this way, we can be confident of our future and do our part to contribute to a stronger nation. finally, there's
Social Denfence (she hui fang wei).Social Defence is all about Singaporeans of all races and religions living and working in harmony. It is also about helping our fellow Singaporeans in times of need. As one people and one nation and one Singapore (haha!), we have the responsibility to contribute to the community by helping the less fortunate and the underpriviledged among us, regardless of their race, language and religion. By doing so, we further strengthen social unity and cohesion.rights, i'm done. =))
